Mother Nature Wins the All American 150
The teams of Junior Roddy and Howard Ford made the long trek to Roseville, on March 20th, for the season-opening All American 150. Friday's practice and qualifying sessions went off without a hitch on a warm, sunny afternoon. On Saturday, the cold rain began to fall, midday, forcing the cancellation of the main event.
Howard Ford posted the fastest time of 13.370 on the 1/3-mile oval. It was, essentially, a track record, though records aren't kept for open shows. Thomas Martin was 2nd at 13.740 followed by Gary Glenn's 13.942 and John Moore's 13.955. Ford won the dash over Martin after Glenn and Moore crashed on the second lap.
Race Director Jeff Macey suggested not running the scheduled heats to avoid unnecessarily tearing up any equipment in the 13-car field. The drivers agreed, so the dash would be the only racing that took place all weekend.
Still feeling the need for speed, the Roddy and Ford teams went to the RPM Indoor Karting Center in Rancho Cordova to turn some laps on the quick road course. Ford again turned the quickest lap (go figure!) and a great time was had by all!
Random Notes
Redding’s Steven Gannon qualified 6th at 14.021
Roddy qualified 7th at 14.061
NSCS alum Derek Thorn, in his newly reskinned #80, crashed in the first practice session and made a late qualifying run, posting a 14.471
It was a long way to go for a trophy dash but everybody was glad to be back at the track and we look forward to a lot of fun this season!
